Impedance and Smith Chart

      Hello,

How do I plot the impedance of the load between 2 copper plates in Ansys HFSS? Does using Modal or Terminal mode matter?

If possible, I'm also interested in plotting a smith chart.

I tried to follow this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6gCuFgBYnY

This is what I have when selecting results < Create field report < rectangular plot. I can neither find smith chart nor Z parameter anywhere...Do I need to include sweep in my analysis?

Note: I use voltage as an excitation.

There are certain differences between Modal and Terminal solution types in HFSS. You need to select the appropriate solution type depending on your model and the type of simulation.
They both work fine for some applications.
In the screen shots shown, your model solution type is - terminal network and you should see the option - "create terminal solution data report" when you right mouse click on results category.
But it looks like that option is not showing up. Please check if the analysis is setup correctly.
If you are new to HFSS then you can go through "An Introduction to HFSS" document available in the getting started guide folder in the installed directory.
This document will provide all the necessary things required for the simulation.
      All the very best.

I used both voltage (modal mode) and lumped port (terminal mode) as a source excitation for my simulations. The results generated by each excitation source are different from each other. In addition, it seems like the voltage source does not provide S, Y, Z parameters, which are available features when using wave port or lumped port. I wonder why circuit ports are more recommended than voltage source, and how they are different.
I have been using "An introduction to HFSS" to learn AED, but I can't find the answers to my questions in the document. I would really appreciate your input.
      Thank you.

Please note that voltage and lumped ports are two different types of excitations. Maybe that is why you are getting different results.
The simulation setup is quite different for both of them as the underlying equations are different.
If you need S, Y, Z parameters then you can use lumped port for your analysis.
You can go through the different types of examples provided and the getting started guides for better understanding of the tool.
You can find them in the help tab of the AEDT interface.
      All the very best.
