width=This course covers the comprehensive understanding of unsymmetric bending and plate deformation, two fundamental concepts in structural engineering. It begins with the exploration of unsymmetric bending, focusing on beams with asymmetric cross sections and the resulting stress distribution. The course uses a beam of uniform cross section as an example to demonstrate the calculation of stress distribution. It then moves on to the concept of the shear centre of a section, explaining its role in the bending of beams. The course also delves into the bending of plates, discussing how they deform and develop stresses under transverse loading. It further explores bending in circular plates subjected to axis symmetric loading, comparing the stress variation in simply supported and clamped plates. Lastly, the course discusses the calculation of stress in a plate that is simply supported at the edges and subjected to uniformly distributed pressure loading.
