Tensor properties II — Lesson 5

In this video, the tensor product (also called dyadic product) is discussed. The concept of a tensor product is helpful to form projection tensors; this will further help in defining stress-strain relations for materials. Further tangential and normal components of the projection tensor are shown.

The properties (like idempotency and orthogonality) of the projection tensors are discussed here. The video also talks about symmetric and skew-symmetric tensors. It will be shown that any tensor can be expressed as the sum of symmetric and skew-symmetric tensors. This sum will be used frequently in lectures ahead.
