2-4 HOURS

NPTEL

This course covers the comprehensive understanding of numerical solution techniques, focusing on the equation of motion and its solutions under various conditions. For instance, students learn about the Nigam and Jennings method, Central Difference method, Wilson Theta, and New Mark Beta. The course also delves into the application of these methods in MATLAB using the OD solver. Furthermore, the course explores the modeling of a forcing function's variation linearly and deriving the total response from free vibration, constant force, and ramp force. The course also emphasizes the importance of setting the right time period for accurate results. In addition, the course provides a detailed walkthrough of numerical methods for solving Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) systems and dynamic equilibrium equations in state space form. The course concludes with a comparison of responses obtained from different numerical techniques to validate the accuracy of the solutions.

This course has been developed by Prof. Arunasis Chakraborty from IIT Guwahati for NPTEL. It is now accessible through Ansys Innovation Space courtesy of the partnership between Ansys and NPTEL, under the CC BY-SA license. For more details, visit https://nptel.ac.in/courses/105103347.
