This course covers the comprehensive understanding of microwave tubes, their limitations, and applications. It starts with the fundamentals of microwave tubes, highlighting the limitations of conventional tubes like triodes or tetrodes in microwave frequency ranges. The course introduces specialized tubes such as klystron amplifiers and reflex klystrons, explaining the principle of velocity modulation and the role of magnetrons and traveling wave tubes (TWTs) in microwave frequency applications. It further discusses the impact of parasitic reactances and electron transit time effect on the efficiency of these tubes. The course also provides a detailed analysis of the two-cavity klystron, including its efficiency, power output, and power gain. Lastly, it introduces the principles and workings of microwave tubes, focusing on the two-cavity klystron, reflex klystron, magnetron, and TWT.

This course has been developed by Dr. Ratnajit Bhattacharjee from IIT Guwahati for NPTEL. It is now accessible through Ansys Innovation Space courtesy of the partnership between Ansys and NPTEL, under the CC BY-SA license. For more details, visit https://nptel.ac.in/courses/108103141.
