Electromagnetic Compatibility Standards

This course covers the fundamentals of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards and testing methods, focusing on regulations in the USA and European Union. It discusses the principles of various test methods and the common difficulties involved, using real-life examples such as testing an airplane or a big truck. The course emphasizes the importance of emission and immunity levels in products and systems, and how these are tested and certified. It also explores the concept of Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI), its impact on critical infrastructure, and mitigation strategies. The course uses examples like the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) to illustrate these concepts. It provides a comprehensive understanding of EMC standards, testing methods, and the challenges of electromagnetic interference.
