Learn how to simulate microdroplet formation in inkjet printing applications using Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software. This tutorial demonstrates transient multiphase flow modeling with the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method, covering both CPU- and GPU-based workflows. You will set up liquid–gas interface simulations, define time-dependent boundary conditions, apply surface tension and wall adhesion effects, run transient calculations, and visualize droplet formation and evolution. The tutorial also highlights key modeling considerations, solver settings, and postprocessing techniques for analyzing microdroplet behavior and free-surface dynamics in inkjet systems.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Set up microdroplet formation simulations in Ansys Fluent using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model for both CPU- and GPU-based workflows.
  • Define and apply key physics, including material properties, phase interactions, surface tension effects, and transient boundary conditions, to model inkjet droplet ejection.
  • Visualize, analyze, and compare simulation results from CPU and GPU solvers to evaluate droplet behavior, free-surface evolution, and flow characteristic

Prerequisites:

  •  Ansys Fluent Getting Started: Basics
  • Ansys Fluent Beyond Basics training
  • Ansys Fluent Multiphase Flow Modeling

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2026R1 release.
