This course does not demonstrate detailed handling of Ansys optiSLang® process integration and design optimization software – Ansys Workbench™  simulation integration platform extension, but the procedure of the Robust Design Optimization (RDO) of a Crane Hook. It shows how decisions about the further proceeding are based on data obtained from a previous step of the analysis.

After the robustness assessment of the initial design, sensitivity analysis, optimization, variance based robustness analysis of the optimal design and reliability analysis are conducted. In the sense of an iterative RDO, the main steps of the loop are repeated to obtain a robust optimal design. The process terminates with a final reliability proof of the robust optimum.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Set up a robustness analysis and reliability analysis in Ansys Workbench software using the Ansys optiSLang software tools.
  • Interpret the robustness results in Ansys optiSLang software postprocessing.
  • Get inspiration on how to make decisions about further proceeding, simplification of the task etc. based on data.
  • Conduct an iterative RDO.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge about Ansys optiSLang software is presumed which can be obtained by attending the Ansys optiSLang Getting Started.
  • This course supplements the course Ansys optiSLang Product Quality (Robust Design Optimization). It is recommended to study this.
  • Besides Ansys optiSLang software, you should be familiar with Ansys Mechanical software and specifically with using Parameters. It is recommend that you study the course Hook Optimization with Ansys Mechanical in Ansys Workbench in Ansys optiSLang Software first.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2025R1 release.
