This course introduces practical workflows in Ansys Simpleware 3D Image Processing Platform for working with medical imaging data, CAD implants, and anatomical analysis. Learners begin by importing and positioning CAD implants within 3D anatomical models, using both automatic registration and manual refinement techniques to achieve accurate alignment. The content then expands to measurement and shape analysis of hip anatomy, where geometric fitting and measurement tools are applied to extract clinically relevant parameters such as distances, angles, and joint centers. Building on this, the course covers complete CT image processing workflows, including DICOM import, resampling, segmentation, and mask refinement for hip and femur anatomy. Learners will also explore methods to generate, visualize, and validate 3D anatomical models for inspection and analysis. Across all modules, emphasis is placed on combining automated tools with manual adjustments to ensure precision and reliability. The workflow supports applications in surgical planning, implant positioning, and clinical evaluation. Additionally, the course demonstrates how to prepare and export 3D models in standard formats for simulation and 3D printing. By integrating these skills, learners develop a comprehensive understanding of medical image processing and model preparation. Overall, the series enables accurate interpretation and manipulation of anatomical data for engineering and clinical use cases.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

Import and visualize CAD implants within medical 3D datasets.

  • Position implants using automatic registration tools.
  • Refine implant placement manually in 2D and 3D views.
  • Assess implant alignment relative to anatomical structures.
  • Apply shape fitting to extract key anatomical measurements.
  • Generate and export segmented 3D models for simulation or printing.

Prerequisites:

You need to have Simpleware software or Simpleware Medical software installed.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2026R1 release.
