This course provides a comprehensive introduction to simulating Joule heating effects in electronic systems using Ansys Icepak® electronics cooling simulation software within the AEDT tool. You will learn how to set up and analyze both steady-state and transient thermal-fluid simulations involving DC current-induced heating in conductive materials such as busbars. The course emphasizes practical workflows, including geometry import, material assignment, boundary condition setup, meshing, and result interpretation.

The course is designed for engineers and analysts familiar with basic Ansys Icepak software operations and aims to deepen their understanding of thermal-electrical coupling and design optimization in power electronics and thermal management applications.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Understand Joule heating and its simulation in Ansys Icepak software.
  • Set up steady-state and transient thermal analyses.
  • Assign materials and boundary conditions effectively.
  • Use datasets for time-varying current and power inputs.
  • Visualize temperature, voltage, and current density results.
  • Apply best practices for meshing and convergence.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2025R1 release.
