Electroplating is the process of plating one metal onto another by hydrolysis, most commonly for decorative purposes or to prevent corrosion of a metal. Simulation can be applied early in the design stages to optimize deposited thickness: thickness deposition can be clearly related to electrode shape.
This Application Best Practice (ABP) will show two simulation cases for electroplating with different electrode shapes and one parametric simulation where the shape of the electrode changed and impact on deposition thickness is assessed.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Perform electroplating simulation based on Butler-Volmer equation.
- Perform parametric analysis to verify the position uniformity.
Prerequisites
Previous experience using and applying the Ansys Fluent CFD solver is recommended.Previous training is recommended in the following areas:
- Basic Fluent solver functionality
- Species transport
- Meshing
- Post-processing
