The LS-DYNA solver allows us to simulate brief-duration events such as a phone falling to the ground, or a vehicle crash using the explicit dynamics method. Explicit dynamics analysis with Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA® nonlinear dynamics structural simulation software accommodates performing simulations with high nonlinearities where convergence via implicit methods may not be possible. Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA software provides a user-friendly graphical user interface to set up and post-process LS-DYNA models. In this course, we will introduce Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA software and will discuss how to properly utilize the Workbench LS-DYNA environment to perform our simulations.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Navigate the environment of Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA software.
  • Set up a model and apply proper loads and boundary conditions.
  • Exploit connections and contact pairs to model realistic interactions among parts.
  • Select proper material models available in Ansys Workbench LS-DYNA software to incorporate behavior of a wide range of materials.
  • Discretize models with specific meshing guidelines for explicit dynamics analysis.
  • Use Analysis Settings to adjust different parameters of interest.
  • Access the results of a model to post-process and interpret the outcomes of the simulation.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of the Ansys Mechanical Getting Started: Basics course and the Ansys Explicit Dynamics Theory courses are recommended.

Please Note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2022R2 release.
