This course covers Boundary Conditions in Ansys HFSS™ high-frequency electromagnetic simulation software. Boundary conditions for 2D surfaces, surface approximations, and 3D absorbing boundaries for open structures are explored in this course. This course also contains a workshop on assigning different absorbing boundary conditions for probe fed patch antenna.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Assign boundary conditions in Ansys HFSS software to represent the material properties for 2D sheets and 2D faces of 3D objects.
  • Understand surface loss modeling using different boundary conditions in Ansys HFSS software.
  • Learn different types of absorbing boundary conditions in Ansys HFSS software.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of Getting Started with Ansys HFSS Software or equivalent knowledge of the HFSS project manager, 3D modeler tree, plotting of S-parameter simulation results, and workflow for setting up basic simulations.
  • Knowledge of microwave principles including scattering parameters (S-parameters) and transmission line principles.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetics, including boundary conditions for fields on surfaces, how tangential electric field must be zero at perfectly electrical conductors.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in 2020 R1 release.
