This course introduces the Welding Process Add-on in Ansys Mechanical™ structural finite element analysis software, which enables simulation of welding operations using Ansys Parametric Design Language (APDL)™ finite element modeling tool capabilities.
The course also covers geometry preparation, weld discretization methods, heat input definitions, workflow options, and post-processing of welding results.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the fundamentals of welding simulation, including thermal, structural, and coupled thermal-structural analyses.
- Configure and use the Welding Process Add-on in Ansys Mechanical software to define welding processes and workflows.
- Set up weld discretization, heat input models, material properties, meshing controls, and welding parameters for realistic welding simulations.
- Evaluate temperature distributions, stresses, strains, distortions, and other welding simulation results to assess weld performance.
Prerequisites:
- Familiarity with Ansys Mechanical software is required. If you have not taken the course, please do so alongside reviewing this presentation.
Please Note: These training materials were developed and tested in 2025R1.
