This workshop explains the case set up and solution procedure for analyzing the effect of electrostatic field on charged particle motion during Electrostatic Spray Painting using Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand how to setup the case and solve for analyzing the effect of Electrostatic Field on the Charged Particle motion using Ansys Fluent.
  • Learn how to use the Potential model and obtain an electrostatic field between anode and cathodes.
  • Understand how to use User Defined Function (UDF) to provide additional Body Force term in DPM.

Modeling Spray Painting with Evaporating Particles using Lagrangian Wall Film

Spray painting is a painting technique in which highly atomized paint particles are sprayed through air onto a surface. In this demo tutorial, spray painting is modeled with Lagrangian wall film approach. Atomized paint particles are injected by solid cone injection. Particles upon hitting a cylindrical surface form a film. Subsequently film is tracked on the surface coupled to the gas phase.

Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Use DPM model and setup injection for releasing particles.
  • Set up the case for evaporating paint particles using Droplet DPM and Species Transport Model.
  • Use particle tracks for visualizing the particles.

Spray painting is a painting technique in which highly atomized paint particles are sprayed through air onto a surface. In this demo case, spray painting is modeled with Lagrangian wall film approach. Atomized paint particles are injected by solid cone injection. Particles upon hitting a cylindrical surface form a film. Subsequently, the film is tracked on the surface coupled to the gas phase.
