Ansys Fluent Watertight Geometry Meshing Workflow with Extrusion for Radiator Geometries (Tutorial)
2-4 HOURS
The objective of this course is to generate a high-quality computational mesh for a radiator geometry using the Ansys Fluent Watertight Geometry Meshing Workflow (WGMW) in Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software. The workflow combines surface meshing, poly-hexcore volume meshing, and extrusion-based techniques to create an efficient, conformal, and locally anisotropic mesh suitable for internal flow simulations. Special emphasis is placed on generating stretched cells within the radiator tubes to reduce computational cost while maintaining mesh quality and solution accuracy. The course also demonstrates the use of periodic boundaries, boundary layer mesh generation, and zone management to prepare the mesh for subsequent Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Prepare a radiator geometry and create the Named Selections required for extrusion-based meshing workflows.
- Apply local sizing controls using face sizing, curvature, and proximity refinement methods.
- Generate high-quality surface and poly-hexcore volume meshes for radiator flow domains.
- Define and automatically create periodic boundary conditions for repeated tube passages.
- Perform mesh extrusion to generate anisotropic mesh regions aligned with the tube flow direction.
- Create boundary layer meshes to improve near-wall mesh resolution.
- Manage, merge, and rename cell and face zones to simplify the simulation setup.
- Evaluate mesh quality using mesh diagnostics, orthogonal quality, skewness, and aspect ratio metrics.
