GitHub Copilot for Ansys Speos Software

This course helps experienced Ansys Speos^® CAD integrated optical and lighting simulation software; you will apply GitHub Copilot to real scripting tasks they face at work. You will learn how to accelerate Ansys PySpeos and in‑software scripting by generating, understanding, and refining code directly in your IDE. The focus is on practical automation, reducing manual effort, and gaining immediate productivity benefits in day‑to‑day engineering workflows without replacing engineering judgment.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Identify PySpeos scripting tasks where GitHub Copilot can improve efficiency in real Speos workflows.
• Configure GitHub Copilot in GitHub and PyCharm using guided setup steps.
• Apply effective prompting techniques to generate and adapt PySpeos scripts for practical scenarios.
• Evaluate Copilot‑generated code for correctness, assumptions, and engineering relevance.
• Integrate Copilot‑assisted scripting into an existing Speos workflow to achieve immediate productivity gains.

Prerequisites:

• Before starting the course, please make sure you have a valid GitHub account and the following tools installed on your machine:
• Python 3.12 (or newer version)
• PyCharm 2025 (or newer version)
• Speos RPC (optional, if you want to run the provided example)
