Overview

Engineers concerned with designing resilient coastal structures are interested in understanding how waves interact with obstacles on a beach. In this course, we will simulate a single wave rolling into some obstacles on a beach using Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software. We will model the flow using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) model deploy Open Channel Wave Boundary Condition. We will create an animation video to visualize the behavior of the wave. With the help of the results, we will showcase the impact, domain size could have on results and provide recommendations that will help improve the situation.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Perform a transient simulation of an open channel wave case.
  • Setup simulation using VOF model and Open Channel Wave Boundary Condition.
  • Use report definitions to define convergence conditions.
  • Setup and generate animations.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of Ansys Fluent Getting Started: Basics is recommended.
  • Completion of Ansys Fluent Getting Started: Beyond the Basics is recommended.
  • Some experience with CFD simulations of multiphase flows is desirable.
