Overview
The traction motor is a key component in the electric vehicle/hybrid electric vehicle (EV/HEV) development process. Designing a highly efficient and cost-effective traction motor is challenging.
Motor design involves tradeoff between different geometrical, material, or design characteristics to meet the performance and reliability requirements while maintaining cost and volume constraints.
The interplay between these different, interlinked, and sometimes conflicting design parameters makes the overall process significantly more complex. A state-of-the-art optimization/statistical technique can help the designers make the right decision while understanding the implications of that change. This means the reduced design iterations result in a compressed development cycle.
