NPTEL

width=This course covers the fundamental aspects of synchronization in satellite communication. It begins with an exploration of frame synchronization and network synchronization, highlighting their importance in the recovery of transmitted symbols and efficient resource allocation, respectively. For instance, in a scenario where multiple transmitters are trying to access satellite resources, network synchronization becomes crucial. The course also delves into the use of phase-locked loops for generating a replica of the carrier frequency and phase. Furthermore, it discusses the role of frame synchronization in various communication forms, such as internet communication and TV transmission. The course concludes with an in-depth discussion on open loop and closed loop synchronization, including unique word detection, burst timing correction, Doppler impact on frequency domain, time reference differences, and TDMA synchronization.

This course has been developed by Prof. Kalyankumar Bandyopadhyay from IIT Kharagpur for NPTEL. It is now accessible through Ansys Innovation Space courtesy of the partnership between Ansys and NPTEL, under the CC BY-SA license. For more details, visit https://nptel.ac.in/courses/117105131.
