Understanding Wireless Networks and Technologies

This course covers the fundamentals of wireless networks and technologies, starting with the basics of networking and moving on to the specifics of wireless networking. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the cellular system, the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), and the differences between wireless and fixed telephone networks. For instance, it explains how the 3G network combines a mobile phone with a laptop PC, television, PDA, and more. The course also delves into the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), its architecture, and functioning. It further explains the modulation techniques used in GSM and the reasons for migrating to Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) for third-generation mobile systems. Lastly, the course covers the fundamentals of CDMA technologies, its signal generation process, and the importance of error control codes in wireless standards.
