2-4 HOURS

NPTEL

width=This course covers the comprehensive aspects of designing battery packs, with a particular focus on the electrical design. It starts with the basics of assembling cells into modules and then into a battery pack, emphasizing the importance of parallel and series combinations. The course then delves into the significance of bus bar design, contact resistance, voltage drop, current equalization, and conductor selection. It provides illustrative examples, such as how a poorly designed bus bar can lead to overheating and structural damage. The course also explores the critical aspects of conductor material selection and design, discussing the impact of temperature on resistivity and heat generation. It further explains the concept of contact resistance, the distortion of the current path, and the importance of maintaining equal resistance in multiple current paths.

This course has been developed by Prof. Kaushal Kumar Jha from IIT Madras for NPTEL. It is now accessible through Ansys Innovation Space courtesy of the partnership between Ansys and NPTEL, under the CC BY-SA license. For more details, visit https://archive.nptel.ac.in/courses/108/106/108106182/.
