What are the limitations of the harmonic balance approach.?

      1. HA is used for only transient periodic flow (such as turbomachinery flow) 2. Turbomachinery flow contains deterministic and non-deterministic flow variations. The deterministic flow variation is the dominant flow feature and can be captured using the HA method. On the other hand non-deterministic flow variation such as tip vortex shedding may not be captured in this type of simulation. This poses limitations on the HA method if the non-deterministic variations significantly impact the machine performance or are part of a flow feature we wish to resolve.
