Maybe, Mechanical uses automated technique to treat successfully a vast variety of the nonlinear contact problems. The different numerical criteria and tolerance values can be used during solution for different units. The latter can cause slightly different solution behavior which can sometimes result in lost convergence for such extreme unstable nonlinear problem with large deflection during contact as presented. Mechanical output contains warning messages with the reasons for that and suggested methods to improve convergence.
