The Ansys Innovation Space website recently experienced a database corruption issue. While service has been restored there appears to have been some data loss from November 13. We are still investigating and apologize for any issues our users may have as a result.

In Discovery you have the capability to transfer the data such as your geometry, mesh and simulation setup to another Ansys application. For example, if you are a designer using Discovery, you may want to export your simulation and send it to an analyst for further analysis in Mechanical. You can do that using the transfer feature.

To transfer Discovery data to another Ansys application:

From the Transfer menu in the ribbon of the Simulation tab, choose a product from the list. Depending on the physics being simulated in the Discovery file, the applicable product will be launched.

If both structural or structural-thermal boundary conditions exist, Mechanical will be launched with .dscodat files. This file is saved in the Discovery Projects folder (for example MechanicalExportFile.dscodat) or in Project directory (for example c:\users\username\Ansys Inc\Documents\Discovery Projects).

Note: You can also transfer your data without launching Mechanical. Select Save As from the File menu and specify a file type. Select Discovery Export Files to save as .dscodat file.

This video goes over the process to transfer the file to Mechanical, and all the considerations needed to do that.

Please refer to this knowledge article to understand how you can use the new feature (2024R1), Smart Update Associativity Transfer, where you can transfer your simulation to Mechanical, while maintaining a unidirectional connection with Discovery: Discovery: Smart Update Associativity Transfer (Transfer to Mechanical).
