Discovery Refine – Using multiple processors (CPUs) for HPC licenses

When licensed for high fidelity solves (Discovery Refine Mode), the solver license itself allows up to 4 cores to be used. If additional cores are desired, Discovery attempts to acquire the appropriate HPC licenses. Please find below the details:

      Subscription (Named User) licensing:

      1. With subscription license, there is an add-on license named ”Ansys Discovery HPC Add-on (disc_ult_cpuext)” for using additional processor cores.
      2. This add-on enables Discovery Refine to access an additional 12 cores so that you can use up to 16 local processor cores in total.
      3. The Ansys Discovery HPC Add-on licenses are not additive, so two HPC add-on licenses on the same machine do not enable 32 cores.

      Floating licensing:

      1. With Floating License, the HPC licenses are typically Ansys HPC (anshpc) or Ansys HPC Pack (anshpc_pack) licenses.

Discovery does not request HPC capabilities beyond the number of cores available on the machine. In the event of a shortage of HPC licenses, the solve proceeds using fewer cores, and you will be notified that Discovery cannot obtain HPC licenses.
