It is recommended to try and get a very small displacement based load to work, if it is a precarious relationship at an edge, try supplementing the surf-surf contact with the edge to surface contact. This will put contact detection right at the edge nodes. Please note that surf-surf can be wrapped around the edge and then switched to nodal detection. Also, if a force based load is needed, try starting with a displacement and then switch to force after contact at the edge has been established.
