In the Harmonic Balance approach, how much time penalty exists when, with m= number of modes, we run with m=3 instead of m=1?

For m=1 we end up solving for 3 time levels which is roughly equivalent to 3 steady-state runs. For m=3 we end up solving for 7 time levels which is roughly equivalent to 7 steady-state runs. That’s why it is important to solve only for the number of modes necessary to get an accurate solution. Adding additional modes beyond that will not increase the solution accuracy but will increase the computational effort required.
