If the mesh between the impeller and volute is conformal and there is no interface defined, then in this case, a MRF model is being applied between the rotor and volute. If the customer later wanted to model with the Mixing Plane or run transient using Sliding Mesh, then an interface would need to be set up in order to select these interface models.
