Workbench LS-Dyna – Mechanical Error

      Hello,

I am trying to simulate a crush test of honeycomb in Workbench LS-DYNA. I believe I have properly setup the simulation correct. When I try to solve I get the error: "An error occurred inside the SOLVER module: general error." Can anyone help me with this issue. Attached is a photo of the model.

      Thank you,

      Kyle Lozinski

      Hello Kyle,

Right click on Workbench LS-DYNA and Open the Solver Files directory. You should find a file called solve.out/messag/d3hsp. Open these files in a text editor and this should contain the error message. Se what that message is, it should be self-explanatory but if not please report back here as an inline image or using the Preformatted text option.

P.S: Please post in the Structural Mechanics category in the future. I'll move it this time. If you haven't already, take a moment to review the Guidelines on the Student Community.

      Regards,
      Sandeep

      Sandeep,

Thank you for the reply. I have looked at the file and cannot seem to fine the error. I cannot attach the file here. Do you have an email I can send it to so you can review. The model solves but I cannot review the results. It seems like a post processing error.

      Best Regards,

      Kyle,

We are not allowed to take the model/provide email address due to various regulations. Are you able to post snapshots?

I am not sure why you aren't able to attach your model. Use File>Archive to zip your model, make sure that the archive size is less than 200MB. I can request one of the moderators to take a look at it here.

      Regards,
      Sandeep

I see. Files are attached to the last post.

      Kyle,

I just see a file d3hsp.zip attached, does it have the model as well? If not are you able to share your model for someone to look at?

If your simulation is running fine and if you have the location of the d3plot files (i.e., the solver files directory). You should be able to open them using the button shown below. Just select the first d3plot file.

Now, if that doesn't work. Try a couple of things.

      • I would recommend using clear generated data, archiving the model, closing Mechanical and WB completely. Make sure the process is not running, check using the Task Manager

      • Then try opening it back and loading the LS-DYNA extension and running it but only do this using SMP and 1 processor (Number of CPUs) in the analysis settings.

      • See if it is still a problem? My guess is that there might be some permissions issue at this point.

Let me know what the outcomes are for the above suggestions and if they helped?

      Regards,
      Sandeep

Change the unit system to mm, tonnes, MPa etc. in Mechanical and then try.

Still the same result with the changed units.

      Kyle,

LS-DYNA isn't part of the student products, but is available as a Research license. Do you know what you are using?

I am wondering if that is what is blocking it, otherwise, there is no reason for mechanical not to show the results. I'll reach out to you via your account manager to get your model.

      Thanks,
      Sandeep

I have got the same error, using ANSYS LS-Dyna, was a solution found for this?

      Thanks

Yes, my problem was the file path of where it was being saved. Make sure there is no spaces, dots, dashes etc. I saved the files to a new folder on my desktop and it solved all my problems.

This simple trick is working! "Make sure there is no spaces, dots, dashes etc" Thanks kylelozinski1!
