SubscriberWhat LS-DYNA features does ANSYS come with?
I am going to be doing some structural analysis with biomedical applications looking at brain tissue injury and concussion. For this 3D, dynamic load case, and nonlinear material analysis can you give me some advice on what direction I should begin with?

Ansys EmployeeWhat license do you have?Â
If it is the free student license. I don't think you can run WB LS-DYNA.
Alternatively, you should be able to use Explicit Dynamics. Please see the help on this.

Thank you,

Ansys EmployeeC.J,
I meant Workbench (WB) LS-DYNA. You can run LS-DYNA if you have an ANSYS Academic Research LS-DYNA (aa_r_dy) in your license pool.
Just launch WB GUI and click on Tools>License Preferences to check. Post a snapshot of that.
If you have the license, you should just be able to activate LS-DYNA via the extensions manager as shown below:

Ansys EmployeeHi cjmealer,Â
To clarify, we provide ANSYS LS-DYNA as a separate Academic product to Universities license, it's called ANSYS Academic Research LS-DYNA.Â
This product is not bundled into any other ANSYS Academic Products (Research, Teaching or Student). So in order to access ANSYS LS-DYNA capability you will need to make sure that your college/department has licensed the ANSYS Academic Research LS-DYNA product. Once you have the product and license installed you'll see it listed in the Workbench (WB) menu that Sandeep illustrates above.
The capabilities of this product are the same as our commercial ANSYS LS-DYNA product, and are listed here and here.
I hope that helps?

SubscriberThanks for helping!
Â
I will have to ask my University if they have the ANSYS Academic Research "LS-DYNA" license.
Â
What is the capabilities of this extension? Same as the LS-DYNA from LSTC?
Can I upload dummy models to WB LS-DYNA found on LSTC website from here?Â
http://www.lstc.com/download/dummy_and_barrier_models
Â
Thanks for helping out!

Ansys EmployeeNo the capabilities/features are not the same. The dummy models are particularly complex. You can use External Data to import most keywords but not everything. So, you might have to use command snippets. However, since dummy models contain a lot of parts, contacts etc this can be quite tedious. If your goal is run Dummy models I would recommend to do the pre-processing in ls-prepost (LSPP) at which point you might have to use the command line to run your jobs using the generated *.k files. So, in short, yes it is possible but might take a lot of pre-processing effort on your end.
