SubscriberHi, I am Ankit. I am taking Cornell University's edX course on simulation.
I am getting a new laptop for this course.
As I am on a budget, I wanted to know whether NVIDIA GeForce MX130 2 GB graphics card would be appropriate for learning purpose? -

SubscriberHi Ankit,
Here is the webpage that has the list of Graphics Cards Tested and found to work well with ANSYS.
Are you doing the class with 18.2? Check that list, but also check the 19.2 list.
For the 18.2, there are several nVidia Quadro M cards that would fit in a laptop.
Unfortunately, the Quadro cards are more expensive than the GeForce cards.
It's not that the GeForce cards won't work, it's just that they haven't been tested.
Is it possible for you to test the graphics card before you buy it?
Good luck,
Peter

SubscriberHow do we test the graphics card for ANSYS?
I had downloaded ANSYS 19.2. But will readily download any previous version if it supports GeForce.
Thanks.

Ansys EmployeeHi Ankit,
Sorry, we never officially supported GeForce regardless of Ansys versions. You can refer to this link to see the differences between these two models
https://www.velocitymicro.com/blog/geforce-vs-quadro-whats-the-difference/
and you would know why CAD/CAE software like Ansys , prefers the Quadro.
However, this doesn't always mean that your untested/unsupported card wouldn't work with Ansys at all. We've seen a lot of people who don't even have a dedicated graphics card able to run the software with no issue.Â
Thanks,
Win
