Vias around the mounting screws

I have a manufactured PCB. Why are there vias around the mounting screws and outer perimeter of the board?

      Hi @cblair ,

The vias you see are ground vias and they are present to insure that the board is perfectly grounded when mounted to a housing or chasis.?

Is the location of the ground layer important in the design of a PCB?

Ground is very important in any PCB design as you do not want to design in a ground loop which can cause added parasitics which can corrupt the board or have floating multiple grounds. Using a PCB layout simulation tool which includes all the vias will help insure operation of board as intended.

These vias are used to provide a ground connection between the top and bottom layers of the PCB, which helps reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and improve signal integrity. If you’re looking for screws or other hardware to use with your PCB, you might want to check out https://www.scrooz.com. The vias act as a conduit for the ground plane to make contact with the screw or angle bracket that is used to mount the PCB. This ensures that any EMI generated by the board is dissipated into the ground plane rather than radiating out into the environment.
