SubscriberHi, I'm using expression in Fluent. I found Velocit.mag and VelocityMagnitude in variables- velocity as shown below.
It seems that they are both scalars. And I define expression of them respectively to check the differences.
I have calculated and checked contour of them at same location.Â
they turned out to be same. I'm questionable about this two variables. What's the difference between them?
Any suggestions is appreciated.
Regards.

Forum ModeratorFrom https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/Secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v241/en/flu_ug/flu_ug_expressions_Appendix_fieldvars.html it would appear that one is the vector and the other the scalar. However, "velocity" without a defined direction isn't overly useful. So, it's possibly the same as far as the contour etc are concerned.Â

SubscriberHi Rob,
I'm already search in Fluent User's Guide but only "Velocity Magnitude" was described while "Velocity.mag" wasn't, nor component of "velocity" vector. I'm would preliminary check some variables using vector "velocity" when simulation was done. So it's sometime usefule for me to use "velcoity" vector.Â
///Though it's not a big matter.

Forum ModeratorIt looks to be the same value, so I think you can use either.Â
