Variable Dimension Problems

Hi Please I need help with setting my variables on Ansys simulation. I'm designing a structure of a magnetic coupler, and I want to design a system for misalignment so I'm using a variable to represent misalignment, the change of position in the x-direction is X_space, but now the problem is that it doesn't recognize 2.5 as 2.5mm but writes something like 0.00025 except I type in 2500mm, so in essence if I type in a coordinate like 2.5mm ,3mm ,5mm it gives 0.0025, 0.0003, 0.0005, but if I type in 2500mm, 3000mm, 5000mm then it gives the right coordinates; 2.5, 3, 5. As can be seen from the variable list, I have to used 2500 for 'a', where 'a' is the spacing between each wire but in the simulation it only defines it as 2.5mm. Please I need help on what's wrong with this. Can someone please help?

      Hello Taiye,

Could you please let us know which specific tool of AEDT you are using (Maxwell, HFSS, etc.)? Also, in which version of AEDT you face this issue?

      Best Regards,

      DimK

Hello again Taiye,Despite the version and the tool of AEDT that you use, when you define a design parameter, despite the "Name" and the "Value" of it, you should also define simultaneously the "Unit Type" (for example for your model: "Length") and the "Units" (for example for your model: "mm") fields of it in the respective window, as you can see in the following screenshot: Then, if you use this variable in the object that you want to create, you can see that the evaluated value is the correct one and it is displayed in the appropriate units (mm): If you don’t specify the "Unit Type" and the "Units" fields of the design variable during its creation and then use this variable to create the object, the units of the object are by default set to meters. So, if you specify the "Unit Type"and the "Units" fields of the design variable afterwards, the properties will be expressed into meters in the object’s properties window. For example, a design variable ("X1") with value 5mm will be expressed as 0.005 meters (following screenshot). So, the values in the object’s properties are correct, but are displayed in meters. To avoid this, it is recommended to define the "Unit Type" and the "Units" fields of the design variable during its creation.Best Regards,DimK

Hi, Please I have tried all the advise it still doesnt work. Below is when I want a 2mm spacing between my lines, I created a variable defined the type and unit as adviced. But when I define the lenght as 2, it basically almost overlaps , but if I use 2000 it gives me the spacing of 2mm it's giving me a lot of trouble and I can progress with my project. please refer to the images attached.
Now this is when I define it as 2, it basically overlaps as though no spacing between
Please I need help, as I have followed all the instructions. Thank you so much

          Hi Taiye,

Additionally, to my first response, please check and make sure that you use the appropriate modeler units, through: Modeler (Menu Bar)-> Units…

Also, check if the two lines that you refer to have the desired properties and if the design variables that you have defined correspond to them.

          Best Regards,

Hi Dimk, thank you so much.
When I use a new variable for the first time it pops up a box to define the variable type and unit, please is that not meant to accomplish the same thing you just described? But it seems not to work.

      Hi Taiye,

Please check the following for troubleshooting the issue you were facing:

      1. Please check if you are designing your geometry in "Meter" or "mm" units. From your post, It looks like you are designing the geometry in meters eventhough you are intending it to be in mm. Please check the default units selected for your model in the ribbon area of Draw tab as per the screenshot below

      2. One more reason why it looks the geometry is designed in meters is that you are not able to see the noticeable gap of 2 mm as per the screenshots.

Kindly check and rescale the whole geometry to mm if the issue is with the default units and do let us know it is not sorted out.

      Best regards,
      Praneeth.
