Use our own Intel MPI installation and not the one from Ansys

This is a general Ansys question. We run Ansys through Slurm on a RHEL 8 cluster. We are having problems with some of the older intel mpi version working properly with our combination of Slurm and RHEL 8. We have found the latest version of intel mpi seems to work properly.  Is there an environment variable or some option to Ansys to tell it to use an Intel MPI other than the 2018 version provided with Ansys 2022R1?

see Using an alternative MPI version at https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v221/en/ans_dan/Hlp_G_ADVPARA_4.html
you can try setting I_MPI_ROOT and see if it helps use a different MPI version

That used to work in older versions of Ansys, but it seems to be ignored in this version. The process that gets stuck is coming from the Ansys install

      Ansys ignores the I_MPI_ROOT variable.

did the command line flag for intel mpi version 2019 in the linked help page work for you ?

No - version 2019 has the same issue as 2018. I have also tried the openmpi that comes with Ansys and I get different errors with it.
