Use Floating license Spaceclaim 2025R2 from home with VPN

Dear ANSYS Support Team,

We would like to ask for your guidance regarding the remote use of ANSYS when working with a floating license via a license server.

The customer would like to work from home this weekend using ANSYS. However, the connection to the license server does not work when using the hostname, nor when using the IP address with port 1055. When working from the office network, there are no issues.

We would like to understand the following:

• Is it supported to use ANSYS with a floating license over a VPN connection?

• Are there any specific requirements or configuration steps that need to be applied (for example firewall rules, open ports, or license server settings)?

• Are there any known limitations or changes compared to the previous setup, where the customer was using a node-locked license instead of a floating license?

• Is there anything else the customer could try to make this work?

We understand that this may not be a software issue, but we would like to confirm whether anything has changed on the ANSYS side, as this setup was possible in the past.

Users can connect to licenses either through VPN or borrow the licenses when they are in office. 

Please make sure the borrowing option is enabled.

  Yes, you need to open ports 1055, 1056 by default on both client and server endAllow firewall exceptions if it is a windows machine (on server )
