unexpected results when changing the material from structural steel to glass

Hi everyone, I am performing a static structural analysis in ANSYS 19.2. between a cylinder and a plate in contact. When using structural steel I am able to get a gap in the contact area, which is as expected with a frictionless contact. But as soon as I changed the material to Quartz glass, there was no gap between the contact surfaces for the same boundary conditions. I am unable to understand why this is happening.

      Hi Subhav,
Have you changed the material in the same model or are you running two different models? Is this happening with the Quartz glass only or with other materials also? Please let me know.

      Regards,
      Sampat

Hi Sampat, I changed it in the same model. I have checked it only with cast iron or as a cast iron cylinder and aluminum plate. for both of these models, I was able to get a gap, but there was no gap when I had a Quartz glass cylinder

        Regards

        Subhav

      Hi Subhav,
Will you please upload the screenshot of the model and contact status of both simulations? Also, upload the screenshot of the contact's settings.

      Regards,
      Sampat

        Hi Sampat

please find the screenshots attached below. Unfortunately I can’t upload the screenshot of the whole model as its a ongoing project with but please find the half model for your consideration.

        Regards

        Subhav

Hi Sampat could you think of any reason for these results

          Hi Subhav,
I apologize for the delayed response.
I can see you have attached the result of the contact tool under the solution. Please verify, if you selected the proper contact and target side in the contact tool while evaluating the result. I have created the dummy model and checked with the same version but did not find any differences.

Although your value is also too small,so no issue with it. Is this value-creating any issue in your result? what is the penetration and geometric gap value in the contact tool status under the connection?

          Regards,
          Sampat
