Hi!Â
I am trying to understand nonlinear material behavior, especially superelasticity.Â
Looking at Ansys help for superelasticity, there is this idealized stress-strain-graph including the phase transformations (austenite-martensite), where σsAS marks the start of the austenite-to-martensite transformation. (Found here: 4.15. Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) (ansys.com))
Now to my question: Is it correct to assume that a superelastic material will behave like a linear elastic material in the elastic region (i. e. the linear part of the graph in the beginning of the load cycle up to σsAS)?Â
In other words: Can I expect linearly elastic behavior if my stresses do not exceed σsAS?Â
I'd appreciate any help :)Â

Hi,
Yes I would expect a linear elastic behavior.

Hi,
Yes I would expect a linear elastic behavior. In addition, please see if the following links help:
