Turbulence Modulation

      Dear Sirs,

I am doing a pneumatic conveying simulation, using 2-way coupling between Fluent and Rocky. I am reviewing the manual for turbulence modulation, so I am using the option "k - ε Dispersed Turbulence Model", which has the following options:

When configuring my simulation between both software, I check the option that Fluent gives me but I only find the following: "dpm-averaged"

So what do you mean by "dpm-averaged"? And how could I get information from the equations that Fluent is using to calculate the 2 source terms?

Which option is the most appropriate for pneumatic conveying? (Simonin et al.; Troshko-Hassan or Sato), I had already read that the Troshko-Hassan option is more appropriate for boiling flows.

      Thank you.

I probably need to run another coupled model to test - I did a lot of co-simulation but haven't needed to recently. Rocky does all the particle work, and takes the flow data from Fluent. Rocky then returns a drag and volume fraction to Fluent so the flow field can be updated. If you look in the Rocky manuals (in Help) there's a section on coupling to Fluent - hopefully it's explained there.

I'll leave a message for a counterpart on the Rocky team (I use it to extend Fluent's capabilities, he then covers the more complex Rocky side of things) for when he wakes up.

      Hello Rob,

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I reviewed Rocky's manual but he only described the three options that Fluent proposes, that is to say (per-phase, dispersed and mixture, but they do not add more information about the equations that Fluent is using to calculate the 2 source terms.

Thank you for leaving a message for Rocky's team. I will be attentive to any answer they can provide.

They don't make a great deal of sense at this time in the morning: they've not had breakfast yet! ;)

Rocky takes the Fluent flow, temperature etc over and works the particle motion out. That's then passed back to Fluent. Those interactions shouldn't be needed.

DPM-averaged is only mentioned for DDPM. Double check you've not turned it on by mistake: Rocky does all of the particle tracking for you but needs the dummy phase in Fluent to hold the data.
