SubscriberI am currently trying to create a new material for the solid part of my simulation in Ansys Fluent.
I right-clicked on Materials -> Solid and then clicked on New. Unfortunately, this only lets me define density as the only material property? Also, when I closed the application and reopened it, my new material had disappeared and was replaced by aluminum again.
Is there a more elegant way to to do this that will allow me to define more properties (like E Modulus and Poisson ratio) and lets me save it in the database?
Many thanks in advance!

Forum ModeratorUnless you've got the FSI options switched on Fluent only needs the density. Similarly, you can't add heat capacity and conductivity if energy is off. Turn on the models you will need and you can then create the material, remember to save it. Then you can copy to a user database.Â

SubscriberThank you! That makes a lot of sense. I would like to take a look at how the fluid pressure expands the surrounding material. Which model should I best include for that and where do I activate it?

Forum ModeratorIf the flow is important then use the Fluent intrinsic FSI, but the solver is for elastic deformation only at present (simply bendy models). If the fluid is just increasing in pressure then Mechanical with fluid elements (I think - I just do CFD) would be better.Â

SubscriberThe thing is that I would like to look both at the flow (turbulence, shear stresses, etc) and also at the wall stresses and displacements in the surrounding elastic pipe. Do I need to use two different models for this or can Fluent FSI deal with this?

Forum ModeratorDepends on how much you're deforming the solid, it's it not too much then Fluent can do it all. Otherwise you'll need to transfer data from Fluent. Note the Student licence doesn't allow FSI so it's one way only, or use a Research Licence at the University.
