Tolerancing compensator limits exceeded in Monte Carlo runs

      Hi all,

I made a compensator with +/-10mm limit. In the sensitivity analysis this limit is obeyed, but in the Monte Carlo simulation it gets exceeded:

      Sensitivity analysis:

So -3.5mm .. +1.5mm which is okay. But Monte Carlo with 1000 runs:

So it goes -13.5mm .. +14mm for all it is limited to +/-10mm.

Could there be a bug in the code?

      Cheers,

      Jurgen

      Hi Jurgen,

Thank you for reaching out to us! May I ask you wether you have gone through our help page: The Tolerance Tab » Tolerancing Group » Tolerance Data Editor » Tolerance Control Operands » General Comments About Min & Max Values on Compensators? I believe you might find the reason why the min/max values are violated there. That being said, if you have further question on this topic feel free to come back!

      Kind Regards,

      Niki

      Dear Niki,

thank you for coming back to me. I actually found this now - just for every reader: The tolerance control operand boundaries are ignored when "Merit function" or "User script" are chosen as tolerance criterion. This is good to know, thank you!

Maybe a suggestion: When chosing "RMS Spot size" as criterion, could there be an "ignore lateral color" setting implemented as it is the case in the merit function wizard? This would make all the difference for dispersing optics like spectrographs, and it would also ameliorate the problem with exceeding the boundary limits. Just as a suggestion for a later version.

Thank you again for your help with this! I always study the help files first, but it is so much that details are quickly overlooked.

      Best wishes,

      Jurgen

      Hi Jurgen,

Of course, we are alsways happy to help and understand that a lot of information that is in help files that can be overlooked thats why we first suggest to go there!

Your feedback is much appreciated. I will keep an note about this and try to investigate and push it as a suggestion to our developers!

      Have a nice day!

      Niki
