SubscriberHello,
I am looking for reccomendations on hardware for large models. My company is looking at buying very good desktops for my team, but depending on what you want that can mean a machine that price range can vary a lot. I am working with large models, directly mapping CFD data to models on the order of 20K nodes. I am roughly aware that performance acceleration of radks and sinda runs exists, but I am not quite sure how to translate that into a request for a specific kind of CPU or GPU. Does anyone have an advice or examples I can go off of?

Ansys EmployeeThere are some recommendations in Ansys Thermal Desktop System Requirements. The real hardware drivers will be AutoCAD and Discovery. A system that meets or exceeds all of the recommended requirements, instead of the minimum requirements, will serve you the best.
A solid-state drive (SSD) will provide the best read/write performance.
Up to 16 processors can be used on a single license for radiation calculations. HPC tasks allow that number to be increased.
Graphics cards should be compatible with AutoCAD and Discovery.
For what you described, I believe that ensuring your RAM meets or exceeds the recommendations above will be key.
Let me know if you found this helpful or have other questions or concerns.
Kind regards,
Doug
