DesignSpark Mechanical was the start of my search for a digital design tool for Mechanical Engineering as an alternative to the two mainstream behemoths.  This, in turn, led me to SpaceClaim and thence to ANSYS Discovery.  My impression, based on the similarity of the design tools and operation techniques, is that this is something of an evolutionary process. 

My first question, therefore, is, "Is this evolutionary?"

Given the difficulty I am having in finding tutorial material pertaining to 3D modelling and parts assembly for ANSYS Discovery my second question is, "Is the plethora of tutorial information available for DesignSpark and SpaceClaim applicable to ANSYS Discovery?"

Thank you for your interest in ANSYS Discovery products! As you mentioned "ANSYS Discovery" I presume that you are referring to ANSYS Discovery Live.

ANSYS Discovery Live is primarily an instantaneous 3D design simulation tool that is built on the same platform of ANSYS SpaceClaim. Using Ansys Discovery Live you can perform instantaneous 3D design simulation on your models, carry out interactive and rapid design exploration, and further improve your designs. You can easily manipulate geometry, material types or physics inputs to see real-time changes in performance. Discovery Live has most of the SpaceClaim 3D modeling tools needed for geometry creation, editing, cleaning & repairing and assembling. So the answer to your second question is Yes! Except for Sheet metal and drawing sheets creation which is currently not available in Discovery Live, almost all 3D modeling tutorials of SpaceClaim are applicable to Discovery Live. Moreover, Discovery SpaceClaim is always available with Discovery Live, so you can easily work on modeling Sheet metal and drawing sheets creation using SpaceClaim.

As far as DesignSpark Mechanical is considered, it doesn't have all the functionalities of SpaceClaim. You can find more details about the difference between these 2 products at this link.

Regarding your first question on whether this is evolutionary, the answer again is Yes! Since the launch of Discovery Live a couple of years ago, there have been significant improvements to the simulation capabilities offered by Discovery Live. And going ahead, this instantaneous 3D design simulation tool will continue to evolve to include more simulation capabilities! On this note, I would like to mention an important event on ANSYS Discovery that is happening on July 29. I would encourage you to register and attend this event. In the first instance it appears to be Discovery SpaceClaim which takes my interest.  It is nice to do simulation testing and things but that is no use if you do not have a model to test.  Let's do the first things first.  So, assuming there are video tutorials (or PDFs for that matter) for SpaceClaim, where are the tutorials?  Google is not a great deal of help here - there must be a library somewhere.

For example, having successfully created a simple model in SpaceClaim I have yet to figure out how to change its dimensions.  Is there a tutorial which will teach me that?
