SubscriberHello.
Is there an option in Design Modeler that allow us to import a terrain with reliefs.
The map is prepared with google earth?

Forum ModeratorWhat formats do you have available? You may be better off with SpaceClaim as there are more import options.Â

SubscriberRwoolhou thank you for your reply.
I have several formats, DWG DXF Sat and stl, with sat I can open it in DM but not in form, I can't manipulate this figure.
I have a XYZ file that I need to be able to upload to DM.
for SpaceClaim I've never used them before . -

Forum ModeratorIf it's rows of points the check out the line import into DM. We don't have a point cloud reader (rather we can't do much with it afterwards except manually join all the dots up) so really need the surface.Â
Try reading the stl into SpaceClaim and see what you get. Then read up (on here) about working with stl files: the student version is limited in how many cells, surfaces etc it can handle so you may have problems.Â

SubscriberYou can right mouse click on the Facet body and Convert to Solid, then it will be available to edit and mesh.

For the conversion to solid it is done. but not to be able to edit .

SubscriberWhat edit do you want to do?
There are some tools to clean up the facet body before conversion to solid.
Once the facet body has been cleaned up, the solid body should be able to be split with a plane for example.

SubscriberYou need solid to represent the air. How thick should it be? Which side is the air on: +Z or -Z?
Put the STL file inside a zip file. You can attach a zip file.Â
Also attach the .scdoc file if it is < 120 MB.

SubscriberI see you are using ANSYS 2019 R1.
When reading STL files, it is easy the get the units wrong. What are the units in the STL file?
If they are mm, then the area is about 11.1 x 9.5 meters. Is that correct? That is what is in your SpaceClaim doc.

Forum ModeratorDon't try and scale in geometry, it can mess with the tolerances (all CAD has this issue). As you're in ANSYS 2019Rx you just need a shell (surface) model of the ground, sides & sky. Then have a look at Fluent Meshing Watertight Workflow outside of Workbench. This works best with "normal" CAD but there are ways around that too. Â

SubscriberIn the Student license for 2019 R2, you have to start the Standalone Fluent program. See this tutorial that is for the Fluent Fault Tolerant Meshing which shows the commands to do this and turn on the Beta feature. You can get to the Watertight Workflow from this same place.

I hope you are doing great. i have followed the above tutorial titled : This video shows how to create two watertight STL bodies that you can use to mesh the air and the earth. However i am not getting the desired result as shown in the above video. i am attaching the STL file of the terrain. please check this and will you please help me to solve this issue. https://we.tl/t-WNR8nztd01.
Thanks for your time and consideration,
Thankyou,

SubscriberHello Rajasekhar,
Your STL is not clean like Mena's was. Here is the report on import into SC 2019 R3.
It has a mixture of closed facet bodies and open facet bodies and some hanging facets.
You have buildings floating above the ground.
Other blocks are completely below ground.
If you Separate All on the Facets tab, there is one facet that seems to be just Ground.
You have to clean up the data before you can create air or earth. What is your goal, just air or both?
What version of ANSYS are you using?
Please start a New Discussion as this is already too long. You can insert a link to this post.
