SubscriberI am trying to simulate a PMSM in 2D transient with Ansys Maxwell 2023R2 version. I have defined my coils as stranded in the excitation. My questions are as follows:
Â
- What is the difference between Stranded loss, StrandedAC loss and StrandedR loss? Here, I have not defined any wire cross-section, so I am assuming the resistance is calculated by considering the fill factor as 100% of the area defined as the coil. Am I correct here? If this is the case, then the resistance is not correct. As in actual practice the fill factor is not 100%. How can I correctly calculate the resistance without modelling the coil? The excitation is the current excitation here.
- When the motor is excited with current, the induced voltage for the winding is the sum of back-emf + the resistance drop. Is this correct? If this is the case, then which resistance is used here to calculate the resistance drop? What is the correct way to calculate the induced voltage with load (with current excitation here)?
Â
Thank you very much!

Ansys EmployeeHello Ruchika,
Please review Maxwell help manual for definations of strandedloss and others.
    1. Yes, it is 100% of area to calculate the DC loss.Â
2, Induced voltage is calcuated by flux linkage, and is Back EMF + voltage drop of inductance. If you want to include resistance voltage drop, you need to use external circuit with phase resistance or manually calculate it and add I*R.

SubscriberHello,
Â
Thank you for getting back.Â
- Yes, I will refer the help manual for this.
- I tried plotting the winding inductance but it is zero, so I am not sure how the inducatance voltage drop is calculated here. What will be the induced voltage in this case.
Thank you very much!

Best Regards,
Ruchika
