I have a Spaceclaim design file containing an assembly of parts with source set to external:

when I export it to STEP I get a single STP file of the whole assembly.

I would expect external parts to be exported as individual file.

This should follow the same behaviour of the origin file or there should be an option on STP export settings.

Or am I missing something?

If I understand correctly, when one of the components in the assembly is an external, file and when you save it as step, you are expecting the external file to be saved as a different file, where as it is just saving the entire assembly as a step file? I think this is an intended behavior, but I will still confirm this once. I think the way you are saying works with scdoc export. When the file is exported to a step file, the external components are automatically internalized.

 this is what happens, I think there should be an option to internalize them or keep external like most of solid modelers offer. Thanks

Luca I can understand that it will be a good capability to have. Let me confirm that with the team once.
