Stent displacement inside an irregular vessel

Hi everyone, I'm simulating the process of endovascular stent crimping, displacement and deployment.

The analysis is conducted in Ansys Workbench with the Static Structural module. Regarding the displacement step, I need to move the crimped stent (perfectly straight) along the vessel centerline (highly irregular).

Do you have any suggestions on how can i displace my stent inside the vessel?

      Hi Camilla,

Select all the nodes on the outer face of the stent and apply nodal displacement and then remove the not needed displacement components.

      Hi Ashish,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I'm not sure to have completely understood how to face the problem of displacing the crimped stent (which is perfectly straight) inside the arcuated vessel with the nodal displacement. Can you please be more specific on that?

      Thank you in advance!

      Regards,

      Camilla

      Hi Camilla,

My apologies, I think that I did not understand your problem properly. The stent will be crimped, displaced (travel through the vessel), and will be deployed at the desired location. For displacing the stent on the guidewire you will need to model the contact between the guidewire and the stent and then apply displacement at one end of the stent and the stent should bend while moving through the path.

If you can share snapshots of the assembly, I may be able to comment more.

      Regards,

Hi Ashish, thank you again for your availability!

I crimped the stent inside the vessel (in red) using a cylindric surface (in blue). Now I want to displace the crimped stent along the guidewire (which is the vessel centerline, represented with a red line in the picture). I tried to model the interaction between the stent and the guidewire using a bonded contact and then I displaced the stent in the vertical direction (leaving the displacement free along the other directions). However, it seems the contact between the stent and the guidewire is not detected.

Do you have any suggestions? Did I model right the interaction between the stent and the guidewire?

        Regards,

        Camilla
