Hello everyone,
I would like to know, if there is any list with a detailed information about supported materials (MAT_) in LS Dyna when using the smoothed particle Galerkin (SPG) method. I am especially interested in anisotropic materials that can simulate carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP).
Thanks a lot in advance for your answer!
Best Regards,
Fritz.

Hello Fritz,
I found the following from our knowledge database:
"In general, SPG is compatible with all solid material models that use Cauchy strain for stress calculation. Ortho-/aniso-tropic material laws (including those using deformation gradient for stress calculation) need special treatment, so they are generally not supported."
Which anisotropic material model are you thinking of using?
Note that we are planning to add the list of material models supported by SPG in the LS-DYNA user Manual Vol II at some point in the future. I will contact the developer to get you a list now.
Reno.

Hello Fritz,
*MAT_002 is suported and validated for SPG and *MAT_022 is supported but not validated as of now. I think those are the only orthotropic material models supported for now. *MAT_054/55 and *MAT_058 are not supported.
Here is the list of supported and validated material models for SPG as of November 28, 2023:

Hi Reno,
thank you very much for your detailed response. The orthropic models could be good candidates for the CFRP modelling. Sadly, MAT_54/55 and MAT_58 are not supported yet.
Could you please explain the meaning of the validated MAT models? If the models were not validated, could they possibly be unstable?
Best regards.

Hello Fritz,
Unvalidated material models have not gone through extensive QA testing and there might be problems that we are not aware of.
I will let the developer know that you are interested in *MAT_054/55 and *MAT_058 with SPG.
Reno.

Hi Reno,
I believe MAT_059 would be even more suitable for CFRP. If possible, could you please inform the developer?
Do you also have an idea of how long the validation will take?
Thanks a lot once again!
Best Regards,
Fritz.
