Simulation of mixed encrypted models

      Hi there!

I'm trying to implement an EM-Simulation using AED 2023R2.1 with a self designed PCB layout and an encrypted 3D component from a vendor. The problem i keep getting is that i can't seem to edit the encrypted model in any way. I have tried to import the HFSS Design from the vendor into my HFSS 3D Layout Design which grants me the error of "Design cannot be copied. It contains one or more encrypted components". Then i tried to convert the PCB design into an Layout component with a beta option. Then i imported the Layout component into the encrypted HFSS Design. This worked but when i tried to do the simulation i get an error again "A design with Layout Components does not support 3D component with hidden content". I guess this doesn't work because encrypted components usually have hidden content.

So my question now. Am i missing something here or is it just not possible to make an 3D Simulation that includes encrypted and non encrypted models?

Let me know if you need additional information. Thanks in advance!

      Hello Kilian,

In version 2023R2 of AEDT, if an HFSS design contains an encrypted 3D component, it cannot be copied. If you change the definition of the 3D Component and make it unencrypted, then the respective HFSS design can be copied without any errors.

Also, if the HFSS design contains Layout components and encrypted 3D Components with hidden parts, this simulation of it throws the error that you have indicated. A possible solution is to ask the vendor to provide you with an encrypted 3D component without hidden parts. This way the simulation will be possible without throwing the error above.

Another possible solution is to ask the vendor to provide you with an encrypted 3D component, whose definition can be edited. This way you can change the encryption settings, in order to resolve the respective error.

In general, you can run in HFSS a 3D simulation that includes encrypted and unencrypted 3D components, but make sure that there are no issues with the encryption settings (like hidden parts) of the encrypted 3D components.

      Hope this helps!

      Best Regards,

      DimK
